Details released on the new, free family-oriented Jubilee event, Carlton’s Community Bash, presented by Sobeys
New Glasgow, NS – Carlton’s Community Bash presented by Sobeys, a legacy event honouring Carlton Munroe, former promoter and executive director of the Jubilee, who lost his battle with Glioblastoma in 2017, will be held on Saturday, August 3 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the William M. Sobey Sports Complex in Stellarton.
“The 2019 board of directors wanted to find a long-term manner of honouring Carlton’s memory. He was such an important part of the Jubilee for so many years, we never want this community to forget his dedication and commitment to this event,” explains Janine Linthorne, Riverfront Jubilee volunteer Board of Directors chairperson, of how the idea of the event came to fruition. Munroe served as executive director for nine years on the Riverfront Jubilee board and had a clear vision of evolving the festival over time, all while working towards celebrating local talent and focusing on patron experience. The first annual Carlton’s Community Bash will be held on the Saturday afternoon of the Riverfront Jubilee weekend, in Stellarton, at the William M Sobey Sports Complex. This free 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. event will feature numerous local up-and-coming artists and bands for all-ages to enjoy.
“The Town of Stellarton is very pleased to provide the venue for Carlton’s Community Bash as part of the Riverfront Jubilee’s events for 2019,” says Mayor Danny MacGillivray. “Carlton was a true community person, and the community of Stellarton feels privileged to host this event named in his honour.”
Kicking off the event is Rainbow Express, who will provide musical entertainment for small children and families, which will be followed by a Songwriter’s Circle. The Songwriters Circle will feature host, Steven Bowers, Carter MacDonald and Tristan Stewart of popular band Sore Loser, originally from Trenton and now based in Halifax, local youth singer/songwriters, Karol Brown of Little Harbour and Matt Fifield of New Glasgow. Following, local youth band, Hangman will perform, as well as Moria and Claire of Antigonish and Sore Loser. Closing the afternoon’s festivities is youth singing sensation and ECMA nominated, Jody Upshaw.
"I'm honoured to be taking part in and helping organize an event dedicated to somebody who cared so much about the community,” says Ian Grant, volunteer manager for Carlton’s Community Bash. “I'm really excited that we are able to showcase performers who vary in age for an all-ages crowd. The youth are so important to our community and I believe that this is going to be a perfect day for them to come out, enjoy some music, food, and activities."
